Mockingjay Countdown: Mini Challenge 1 (Day 3)

Mockingjay Countdown: Mini Challenge 1 (Day 3)

Mockingjay Countdown
Remember that if you participate in this mini challenge, you will get an extra four entries to win the prizes for today.

For this first mini challenge of the day, I want you to choose one actor who would be perfect for the role of Haymitch and then explain why. He is one of my favorite characters and I would love to know which actor you would want to play him in the movie. You can either leave a comment below with your answer or you can create your own blog post with pictures and then you can leave a link to your entry in the comments below.

Hugh Laurie. If he gained a belly and shrunk a little he would be perfect. He's the right age and he's so good at playing an incoherently coherent man.

I also chose Hugh Laurie in my recent Character Connections post. Here's a link with my explanation: http://derapsreads.blogspot.com/2010/08/character-connection-haymitch-abernathy.html

I just love Haymitch!

Ooh. I really like the Hugh Laurie idea. But I'm going to go with my first pic, Nathan Fillion. Nathan playing a washed up, funny, charming when he wants to be, kick-butt drunk? It can be no other!

Definitely Robert Downey, Jr. I think that he plays a perfect drunk who used to be in amazing physical shape. Definitely my choice!

I think I'm going to have to go with the Hugh Laurie idea. I could see that. I agree with the reasoning from @sarahem. He's perfect at playing the intelligent, crabby old man.

I like @AwesomeNiks idea of Robert Downey Jr. I think that he would be hilarious as Haymitch, since he would play such a good drunk.

All of these are great ideas. Haymitch is one of the funniest characters, so I would really want someone to bring out that side of him. So I think I'm going with the Robert Downey Jr. side, even though I think Hugh Laurie would be good too.

Johnny Depp. He's the right age, and he can play a good drunk. Plus, you know he had to be in good shape back in the day.

I know he doesn't seem like he'd fit the part well at first, but he is so good at playing any role thrown at him. I think he would do well.

I'm not sure why, but I think Jason Bateman would do well. He's a funny actor and he seems to be able to pull off any role thrown at him.

Robert Downey, Jr. I've seen him play drunk roles, and he has that lazy, smart-butt look about him that I think would make him amazing for Haymitch!

Hugh Laurie! He's such a good actor, and he'd play the snarky yet clever Haymitch really well

Nathan Fillion was already mentioned, but he would be spectacular. He has the wit and sarcasm required as well as the charm that Haymitch still posesses.

I originally would have said Hugh Laurie or RDJ, but those have already been said enough, so I did some research. So my choice would be:

Liam Neeson. He's a wonderful actor, so I think he could definitely pull off someone as complicated as Haymitch, :)

To those saying Hugh Laurie, I think he'd do pretty good although it seems semi-type-cast from his House performances. Still, he has great versatility and does great in everything I've seen him in (from his early comedy and drama to his current role in House).

For my money/casting though, I would love to see Geoffry Rush take on the role. Again, he has great versatility and while I think both he and Laurie could have great depth as a crotchety drunk, I would love to see Rush's 'down and out' attitude shine through.

Hugh Laurie! He's acted in a whole bunch of different types of movies and I love him! Plus I think he's about the same age!

Robert Downey Jr! I think he would pull off the right amount of weird/angsty/badass.
