Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles
Publication Date: April 13, 2010
Versions: hardcover, kindle
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
Carlos Fuentes doesn't want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him in Boulder, Colorado. He wants to keep living on the edge, and carve his own path?just like Alex did. Unfortunately, his ties to a Mexican gang aren't easy to break, and he soon finds himself being set up by a drug lord.
When Alex arranges for Carlos to live with his former professor and his family to keep him from being sent to jail, Carlos feels completely out of place. He's even more thrown by his strong feelings for the professor's daughter, Kiara, who is nothing like the girls he's usually drawn to. But Carlos and Kiara soon discover that in matters of the heart, the rules of attraction overpower the social differences that conspire to keep them apart.
As the danger grows for Carlos, he's shocked to discover that it's this seemingly All-American family who can save him. But is he willing to endanger their safety for a chance at the kind of life he's never even dreamed possible?
In the sequel to Perfect Chemistry, you get to meet another Fuentes boy. And even though Alex (in Perfect Chemistry) was a bad boy, Carlos is ten times worse. He swears all the time, does drugs and hangs out with the wrong crowd. So when Carlos has to stay with a strange family who set rules on the first day, he knows he's not going to like it. But he especially likes to play with Kiara, the daughter of the family he's living with, and constantly tries to egg her on. Soon they start to discover things about themselves and about eachother that will bring them closer together.
I really liked this book, but would have to put it second to Perfect Chemistry. It seemed there was something lacking but I couldn't seem to put my finger on what it was. The chapters alternated between characters and the plot line was interesting so I couldn't put it down. I loved how it was a good girl/bad boy relationship and the main characters were just so different.
Will I reread it?
Yes, it was yet another great book by Simone Elkeles. It seems she never dissapoints.

Caleb + Kate by Cindy Martinusen-Coloma
Caleb + Kate by Cindy Martinusen-Coloma
Publication Date: May 4, 2010
Versions: paperback
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
When Kate's family purchases a hotel in the Pacific Northwest, she enters a world that is wholly unknown to her. She never has any privacy because of the constant flow of guests. And as the hotel owner's daughter, she struggles to make friends.
Then she meets Caleb, a strange combination of working-class, Hawaiian culture, and Christian bad boy. He talks about love in an all new way that she finds so alluring. But the two have nothing in common. He rarely smiles, rides a motorcycle with a rough crowd from town, and worst of all, he totally ignores Kate. ButKate has something that he needs and she resolves to prove to him that what she has doesn't define who she is.
I still can't get over how cute this book was. It's about a girl named Kate and a new student enrolls at her school which turns out to be Caleb. The principal makes Kate show Caleb around school but he isn't too pleased and takes off on his motorcycle his first day. Caleb is the typical bad boy that Kate can't help but to be attracted to. When they both deveop feelings for one another, will their family fued keep them apart?
This book is very much similar to Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. It had the whole forbidden love plot line and before each chapter, a line of Shakespeare is quoted. Caleb + Kate is also strikingly similar to Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. And I really enjoyed that one, so it was hard for me not to fall in love with this one as well.
Will I reread it?
Yes, I absolutly adored this book and I love the cover. I would sometimes stop reading it to admire the overall beauty of the colors. Also, the chapters switched from characters points of view so one would be Kate's and the next would be Caleb's. I highly recommend this one.

The Iron King by Julia Kagawa
The Iron King by Julia Kagawa
Publication Date: February 1, 2010
Versions: paperback, kindle
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined…
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.
This was probably one of the more action packed books I've read. This is mainly because I don't buy them solely for the reason I'm a romance junkie. Pixies and faeries aren't my first choice either so I was, at first really hesitant to pick it up. But after all the raving about it and all the "Team Puck" or "Team Ash" going around-I knew I needed to join in and pick my own team.
So now that I've read it, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It actually was very similar to The Narnia Chronicles. I've never read the books but the whole going into the closet into another world was among the same plot line. And at times I felt like I was watching the movie all over again. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and am excited for the sequel.
Will I reread it?
Probably, it was very exciting and was very different from anything else I've been reading. And if you're wondering: I'm team Ash-all the way. There's just something about those bad boys!

Drive Me Crazy (Simon Romantic Comedies) by Erin Downing
Drive Me Crazy (Simon Romantic Comedies) by Erin Downing
Publication Date: June 2, 2009
Versions: kindle, paperback
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
Kate and her two best friends, Sierra and Alexis, are geared up for a week of fun and freedom on the road to their family lake houses in Love, Wisconsin. Best of all, when Kate reaches Love, she'll be reunited with Lucas, with whom she shared a steamy end-of-summer kiss last year. She can't wait to see Lucas again and pick things up exactly where they left off.
Then Kate gets some seriously bad news: Alexis's sarcastic, condescending, hot-but-he-knows-it cousin is crashing the girls' road trip. Adam bugs Kate in every possible way. Now Kate just wants to get the road trip over with so she can spend the summer in Lucas's arms. But the road to Love is full of surprises....
This book is about Kate and her friends going on a roadtrip to Love, Wisconsin where she'll see Lucas again after she hasn't seen him for a long time. But then Adam tags along and Kate isn't too happy about it. She has always disliked him and his behavior. He's always making rude comments to her but she has no trouble shooting mean comments back.
Drive Me Crazy was a very fun summer read. I'm usually not drawn to books having to do with roadtrips but this one was really good and well written. The plot line kept me turning pages and the characters were all very sassy and funny.
Will I reread it?
Yes, it was a really cute read. And I pretty much enjoy all Simon Romantic Comedies. I defiantly recommend this to anyone looking for a book containing a love/hate relationship.

Future Author (interview): Crystal from Write Because You Must
There are so many wonderful writers who someday wish to be published and become an author. And most of those people, including me, find it helpful to get some advice and just overall support to acheive these goals. I felt a lot of people, including me once again, could learn a lot from an interview.
So I interviewd Crystal from Write Because You Must. First of all, I love the title of her blog: it's so true! On her blog, she reviews books and gives some really great advice. Her most current post is titled Never Give Up. I have learned a lot from her blog including my favorite post she has written: Discipline, Practice Patience-and I think the quote at the end is very inspirational. So I highly recommend checking out Crystal's blog and encourage Crystal and all the other aspiring authors out there to keep up the good work!
Here's the interview:
1. Why do you want to be an author?
I've always loved to read, a good book is one of my favorite things in the world. I loved feeling swept away in someone's story, something they created out of nothing but an idea. I wanted to try and do the same thing. I wanted someone else to fall in love with a story I created. And I love putting words together, trying to come up with the perfect way to make people feel like they're right there.
2. When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
Since I was little, probably around nine or ten. I used to make my own books and draw illustrations for them too. My parents were so proud, they'd always laminate them and make a big deal out of it. But then when I was in college I received some really harsh criticism for something I wrote and it pretty much devastated me. I stopped writing for about six years, but I missed it so much. It was really my husband who encouraged me to jump back into writing, and finally write that novel I was dreaming about. That was about two years ago, I guess that's when I decided to get serious about writing and getting published.
3. Have you ever felt like you've wanted to give up?
Yes, all the time! I constantly struggle with feeling like I'm not good enough, that maybe I won't ever be good enough to be published. But it's the love of writing that keeps me going, and also I feel like I need to prove this to myself. I need to know that I've done my best and tried as hard as I can to make my dream come true. I don't think I could live with myself if I didn't do that. And I also strongly believe that if you work hard, and really believe in yourself it will happen.
4. Do you have a daily writing goal that you try to maintain every day?
I used to set a word count that I had to meet everyday, but that was really stressing me out. I felt like I was writing words just to add to my total, not to move my story along. Now my goal is to write every day, and that doesn't count blogging. I write in my fictional world every single day. Even if it's only 200 words.
5. What or who has been your biggest inspiration to keep writing?
My husband, my mom and my sister. They have all encouraged me, believed in me and told me to keep going when I felt like giving up. Having someone behind you, knowing that they think you can do it, helps so much. But some of my favorite authors that inspire me are Maggie Stiefvater, JK Rowling, and Stephenie Meyer. Because they wrote because they loved to, and they didn't give up even when it was hard, even when they were criticized. And I just love their books
6. Can you tell us a little bit about your blog?
My blog started because I found Maggie Stiefvater's blog. I found hers so inspiring, and encouraging. I would check it out ALL the time! And I found other people who were following her who had blogs about their writing journey, and I thought what a great community of support for a writer! I try to keep my posts positive and encouraging. I want to help other people feel inspired and not give up. I talk a lot about goals and keeping motivated and things I've found helpful as an aspiring author.
7. Does blogging help your writing and if so, how.
Blogging helps me a LOT. It helps me to set goals and know that I've said I'm going to do something, and other people know about it so I better get busy! It also is a great way to learn about writing, some of my favorite bloggers always have posts about some aspect of writing that makes me think about something I hadn't before. But most of all it's the support of the other bloggers that helps me. Everyone is looking for ways to help and encourage each other. It's just awesome!
8. What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love being caught up in a different world. Even if it's not 'fantasy', it's something different and new and usually exciting. I love creating my characters and then watching what happens in their lives. I love that for a small part of my day I don't have to worry about all those obligations that can drag you down, I get to just have fun and write.
9. What is one piece of advice for other aspiring authors?
Believe in yourself, write as much as you can, read as much as you can, and NEVER give up. Sorry, I guess that's more than one!
10. Where do you see yourself in the next two years, writing wise?
I'm positive that I'll still be writing, by that point I hope to be actively looking for representation with an agent.
Thank you so much Crystal! Once again, you should really check out her blog! And if you're an aspiring author and would like to do an interview, email me at: smittenwithbooks (at) hotmail (dot) com

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
Publication Date: March 16, 2010
Versions: hardcover, kindle
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.
I have been wanting to read this book for so long (I blame it all on the blogger buzz). And then one day I recieved an email saying I won the book! I was super excited to get this book-so thanks Kay from My Random Acts of Reading-I have recieved the book, read the book, and loved the book!
At first, I expected a mystery/horror/keep you up at night read but I was pleasantly surprised with the romance aspect. Sometimes Jay said things that made my heart clench and I kept on reading the line over and over until I felt satisfied to continue on. The plot line was great and unique and the characters were well written and likeable.
Will I reread it?
Absolutely, it was amazing. I have to say that it was even better than I expected.

Versions: paperback

Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
In this bittersweet romance, two teens living decades apart form a bond that will change their lives forever.
Amy is drawn to the misty, mysterious clearing behind her Aunt Mae’s place because it looks like the perfect place to hide from life. A place to block out the pain of her last relationship, to avoid the kids in her new town, to stop dwelling on what her future holds after high school.
Then, she meets a boy lurking in the mist—Henry. Henry is different from any other guy Amy has ever known. And after several meetings in the clearing, she’s starting to fall for him.
But Amy is stunned when she finds out just how different Henry really is. Because on his side of the clearing, it’s still 1944. By some miracle, Henry and his family are stuck in the past, staving off the tragedy that will strike them in the future. Amy’s crossing over to Henry’s side brings him more happiness than he’s ever known—but her presence also threatens to destroy his safe existence.
In The Clearing, author Heather Davis crafts a tender and poignant tale about falling in love, finding strength, and having the courage to make your own destiny—a perfect book to slip into and hide away for awhile.
I don't know if school has just been tiring me out lately (it seems like teachers want to make my life miserable) or I was just off in another world, because I was very dissapointed with this book. It's about A girl named Amy and she is staying at her Aunt Mae's house. She soon finds mist and then the whole book started going down from there. I was really drawn to the summary, it sounded so unique and very amazing. But there was just something about it that couldn't capture me into the story.
The writing was well done and I liked the overall plot of the book, but I think it could have been portrayed a little differently to make it better.
Will I reread it?
Probably not. But if you think you'll like it, go for it! I bet other readers will enjoy this story even though I didn't. And like I said, my brain might just be mush right now to not have totally adore this story.
But if you want a second opinon: Presenting Lenore reviewed it here. And Laurens Crammed Bookshelf revewed it here.

The cover for Return to Paradise (sequel to Leaving Paradise) by Simone Elkeles has just been released. I'm so excited for this book because I'm in love with Simone Elkeles's writing and I have read and enjoyed all her books so far.
Here's the cover:
It kind of reminds me of a werewolf book with the moon in the background. But I love it!
Summary (from goodreads):
Maggie and Caleb just went through the worst year of their lives. Hit by a car and starting life over with a limp, Maggie never thought she would forgive Caleb. But she did-and fell in love. What they shared was real. But Caleb wanted to be free from the past-and a terrible secret: he wasn't the one who hit Maggie. So he left Paradise-and Maggie-forever.
When Maggie and Caleb run into each other in a different town, they can't deny their true feelings. Will Maggie let Caleb get away again? Or will Caleb face the truth and return to Paradise?
I can't wait for this one! The release date is: September 1, 2010.

Chasing Perfect by Susan Mallery
Chasing Perfect by Susan Mallery (ARC)
Publication Date: April 27, 2010
Publisher: Harlequin
Versions: paperback, kindle, audio
Recieved from: publisher
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
Welcome to Fool's Gold, California, a charming community in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. There's lots to do and plenty of people to meet, especially women. Because there's just one tiny problem in Fool's Gold: the men don't seem to stick around. Maybe it's the lure of big-city life, or maybe it's plain old bad luck, but regardless of the reason, the problem has to be fixed, fast. And Charity Jones may be just the city planner to do it.
Charity's nomadic childhood has left her itching to settle down, and she immediately falls in love with all the storybook town has to offer—everything, that is, except its sexiest and most famous resident, former world-class cyclist Josh Golden. With her long list of romantic disasters, she's not about to take a chance on another bad boy, even if everyone else thinks he's perfect just the way he is. But maybe that's just what he needs—someone who knows the value of his flaws. Someone who knows that he's just chasing perfect.
Chasing Perfect by Susan Mallery starts out with Charity's first day on the job as the new city planner. She wants and expects everything to go perfect, until it doesn't and then Josh Golden comes to her rescue. Josh is the typical popular guy that everyone wants and has the steryotype of sleeping with most of the girls in town. Charity feels drawn to him the second her eyes meet his, and she knows she's in over her head but he will never feel the same way. She then tries against her will to stop the feelings she gets from him everytime he's in the same room as her. But maybe Charity is everything Josh needs.
This book was super cute. I loved how the characters were so interesting and you felt compelled to finish the book and see where the author was going to take the plot. I also really liked point of view change from the characters. Most of the book, however, was written from Charity's point of view but you get a few chapters from Josh.
Will I reread it?
Defiantly, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone looking for a light read that makes you swoon. This was the first book I read from Susan Mallery, and she didn't dissapoint. I will defiantly be on the lookout for more of her books.
This book will be released on April 27, 2010

Lost For Words by Alice Kuipers (ARC)
Publication Date: May 11, 2010
Versions: hardcover
Recieved from: contest
Summary (from amazon.com):
My New Year's resolution: I'm moving on from everything that's happened. I'm not going to talk about it, think about it, let the memory pounce upon me like a waiting tiger, nothing.
All Sophie wants to do is forget. But it's not easy now that everything's changed. The house feels too big, school drags on for too long, lights are too bright, the room spins, and her hands get sweaty for no reason. And she can't remember why she was ever best friends with Abigail, who is obsessed with parties and boys. Only the new girl, Rosa-Leigh, with her prose poems and utter confidence, might understand. But talking to her seems impossible.
Lost in memories of the life she once had, Sophie retreats into herself. But there's only so long she can keep everything bottled up inside before she explodes. Maybe by confronting the tragedy of her past she'll figure out how to fix her future.
The cover really drew me into this one, just by the pure beauty and emotion behind it. Before even opening to the first page, I felt this was going to be an amazing book. And I was right. The story line was at first, very confusing, but then strenthened to a very powerful story that almost left me with tears.
Sophie was very selfish, the whole way through, which is understandable. But she started to get on my nerves when all she did was feel bad for herself and ignore her friend who desperatly needed her help.
Will I reread it?
Probably not, I can only read emotional books once. But it was well written and very unique, so I recommend it to anyone looking for a great tearjerker.

Future Author (interview): Sarah from Confessions of the Un-Published
There are so many wonderful writers who someday wish to be published and become an author. And most of those people, including me, find it helpful to get some advice and just overall support to acheive these goals. I felt a lot of people, including me once again, could learn a lot from an interview.
So I interviewed Sarah from Confessions of the Un-Published. If you haven't read her blog before, I highly recommend you do because I have learned so much from her. First of all, she reviews some awesome YA books and then she posts some great challenges that she has with her own writing. It's an awesome blog to recieve great advice and support so make sure you check it out.
Here's the interview I did with her:
1. Why do you want to be an author?
The truth...I want to quit my day job. That's probably the wrong reason but in the end--that's really what inspires me. I want to wake up in the morning and have no one to report to but myself.
2. When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
November 2008. I was sitting at the movies--watching Twilight--when I decided I wanted to be a writer. It wasn't Twilight that inspired me as much as the crowd. It was opening night and the girls wouldn't stop screaming. I kept thinking how awesome it would be to write something that provoked so much of a responce in others. If I could have just one person love (or even hate) my book like that it would make it all worth while.
3. What or who has been your biggest inspiration?
In the beginning I would have said my sister. She was so supportive and wanted to read everything I wrote. But now she's sick of it. It's like pulling teeth trying to get her to read my stuff. I guess it's pretty easy to wear out your welcome with family. So now the answer to your question is myself. I'm my biggest inspiration. I constantly want to quit but at the end of the day it's me who keep me going.
4. What is the toughest thing about writing?
Persistence. It's nearly impossible not to get discouraged and by nature I'm a very pessimistic person. I've never published anything. I don't have an agent and who knows if I ever will. I don't know if I'm good enough or if I'll ever be. That's really tough. Am I just waisting my time here? I can't answer that and often makes me want to give up.
5. Does blogging help your writing and if so, how.
Yes and no. Through blogging I've meet so many other people who are un-published wannabe writers just like me. It's great having that support network. But I also spend too much time blogging. It's distracting.
6. What's the greatest thing about writing?
The daydreaming part. When I break with reality and think and dream situations up for my characters. I love it. I love creating these conversations and plots in my head. To me that's so much fun--and entertaining.
8. Has your 50k/50 days helped or inspired you?
Yes and no. It helped me start my latest story, so that was good. But lately I've been feeling sort of burnt out on writing, especially with summer coming. (That's where that persistence part comes in.) No matter what I still keep on writing... That brings me to your next question.
9. What is one piece of advice for other aspiring authors?
Just keep on keeping on. Even if you think you suck just keep trying. Write some everyday. And I don't mean on your blog. I don't really believe that blogging will make you a better writer. Sure it might help you connect with other writers but in the end a blog entry and a chapter in a book are so different. I have kept a diary my whole life. I have tub full of notebooks. And none of that really helps me now. I think it's important to try to work on a storyline daily. So write a little everyday. Keep chugging along and hoping that maybe one day you'll be good enough.
And if you've never written before and are thinking about giving it a try--I say why not? Just do it. It can't hurt to try. You might just like it.
10. Where do you see yourself in the next two years, writing wise?
Although I wish I could be published or at least have an agent in that time I bet I'll still be in about the same place as now. I still have so much to learn. I have a critique partner who just recently got her agent and it took her 5 years to get to that point. I figure I still have a few more years of persistance to put in. And even then who knows if I'll be any good.
Thank you so much Sarah! Once again, check out her blog, it's truly amazing and I find myself going to it several times a month. And if you are an aspiring author and would like to do an interview, please contact me at smittenwithbooks (at) hotmail (dot) com, I would be more than happy to interview you for my blog.

Well, this is a little challenge I created for myself. The goal was to write 1,000 words per day for 50 days. That's still the goal. I have a big problem with editing. I never write much in one day because I am constantly backtracking and editing. I figured if I could force myself to just write then perhaps I could get past all the editing. SO that's why I created the challenge. It's been over 30 days now and sadly my word count is only at about 13,000 words. I can't stop myself from editing. I'm going to run the challenge again this summer. Hopefully with round two I'll be a little better at it.

"Waiting On" Wednesday
"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine that showcases books we're eagerly anticipating.
Caleb + Kate
by Cindy Martinusen-Coloma
Release date: May 4, 2010
When Kate's family purchases a hotel in the Pacific Northwest, she enters a world that is wholly unknown to her.
But Kate has something that he needs and she resolves to prove to him that what she has doesn't define who she is.
I absolutely adore this summary, I can't wait until the release date! What books are you waiting for?

How do you feel about memes?
If you don't know what a meme is-it's usually a weekly or biweekly event that occurs on one certain day of the week. For example: In My Mailbox hosted by The Story Siren, Teaser Tuesday hosted by Should Be Reading , Waiting on Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine-are just some of the few, but there are a lot!
Each day of the week I look at my google reader and it's filled with meme after meme. It almost feels as if there are more memes than actally book reviews. I was just wondering if that bugged anyone or if you genuinly like it.
I really like looking at In My Mailbox to see what everyone's gotten throughout the week and I also really like Waiting on Wednesday because I learn about a lot of new and interesting books that I add to my own wishlist. So what do you think about memes? Hate em or love em? And what memes are you favorites?

How to Hook a Hottie by Tina Ferraro
How to Hook a Hottie by Tina Ferraro
Publication Date: January 8, 2008
Versions: paperback, kindle
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
At 17, Kate Delvecchio has one goal in life: to become a millionaire before the age of 20. And as far as she’s concerned, college will only slow her down. Unfortunately for Kate, the one thing her parents do agree on is that they totally disagree with her strategy. And so the deal is born. If Kate can raise five thousand big ones by graduation day, her parents will hand over the balance of her college account to invest as she pleases. No college, no degree, and no way she’ll ever be able to pull it off. But when Kate accidentally agrees to go to the sports banquet with the hottest guy at school, she stumbles upon a possible cash cow. The rest of the junior class is amazed that no-nonsense Kate could hook such a hottie, and one by one they approach her for help hooking their own. She doesn’t know anything about getting guys, but for $100 a pop, she’s more than willing to invent a six-step plan for How to Hook a Hottie. And how could that possibly backfire?
This book was actually pretty funny. It had so many laugh out loud qualities and trust me, it was a little embarrasing on the airplane but I couldn't help myself. Kate has to raise five thousand dollars by graduation and when the popular guy at school wants to date Kate, everyone starts to turn to her for advice. Pretty soon it turns into a business that's making her lots of cash, but then things start to get complicated. And not just about the business but her own love life.
This book even comes equiped with advice that can actually help your own relationship. For example, the "watch test" to see if the guy really likes you (but in order to know what this is, you'll have to read the book).
I really enjoyed this book. It's a very light fun read that will put you in the best of moods and leave you wanting more from Tina Ferraro.
Will I reread it?
Yes. It's that simple.

Dark Guardian #4: Shadow of the Moon by Rachel Hawthorne
Dark Guardian #4: Shadow of the Moon by Rachel Hawthorne
Publication Date: March 23, 2010
Versions: paperback, kindle
Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
I can feel every Shifter's emotions except Daniel's—the only one whose heart I long to know.
Hayden was born a werewolf, a Dark Guardian. But her ability to sense the feelings of fellow werewolves has made her life unbearable. She runs away, only to be tracked by charming, mysterious Daniel, a newcomer to the pack and the one Shifter immune to her powers. As she reluctantly follows him home, Hayden finds herself falling dangerously in love. . . .
But even as her feelings for Daniel deepen, Hayden begins to wonder if he is who he claims to be. Where did he come from and why has no one ever seen him transform? When they stumble upon the body of a Shifter still in wolf form, her worries grow. Someone is killing her kind. Is her handsome tracker really a hunter? And is Hayden now his prey?
I'm a big fan of Rachel Hawthorne and her Dark Guardian series. And even though I loved the first three in this series, I wasn't as pleased with this one. The beginning was amazing and I loved how it was so different. But then the middle came and she threw in that big plot twist which kind of threw me away from the book a little. I also didn't like the fact that all her other Dark Guardian books were written about highschoolers and this one had older characters (which I'm not as drawn to).
It was overall an ok book but I'll defiantly continue on with this series. That is if she writes more in this series, which I dearly hope she does.
Will I reread it?
Maybe.

Lauren has a good life: decent grades, great friends, and a boyfriend every girl lusts after. So why is she so unhappy?
It takes the arrival of Evan Kirkland for Lauren to figure out the answer: She's been holding back. She's been denying herself a bunch of things (like sex) because staying with her loyal and gorgeous boyfriend, Dave, is the "right" thing to do. After all, who would give up the perfect boyfriend?
But as Dave starts talking more and more about their life together, planning a future Lauren simply can't see herself in — and as Lauren's craving for Evan, and moreover, who she is with Evan becomes all the more fierce — Lauren realizes she needs to make a choice...before one is made for her.
Elizabeth Scott is an amazing writer. She knows how to make you connect with each of her characters throughout the whole book, almost as if you're experiencing them yourself. And this one was no different. There was something so human about Lauren and Evan's relationship and even though she already had a boyfriend I kept cheering them on the whole way through.
Lauren's father was kind of annoying and awful. I could hardly stand reading about him or how he couldn't remember anything, especially about his ex girlfriends. But I loved the reaction of Lauren seeing Evan again after they haven't seen eachother for a long time and end up getting seated by eachother during school. You can almost feel that pure awkwardness radiating from the book. And how they can hardly speak clearly to eachother at first.
Will I reread it?
I already have, and I have no doubt I will again. This is truly one of my favorite Elizabeth Scott books.

Spring Break is officially over
Well technically spring break was over two days ago but I was still in Hawaii (gosh I love that place-and if anybody lives there, I envy you so much!). Because of my two days of missing school, I got a wakeup call especially when teachers handed me tons and tons of assingments. It was torturous, but I guess I have to do it no matter what so I should stop complaining. Did I mention I have two quizes tommorow, already?
In other news, I'm back and was actually sad to have missed all your guys's posts, but I'll be back commenting and leaving posts on my own blog as soon as possible (and when I get all that darn homework done).
Oh, and HAPPY LATE EASTER! Better late than never, I always say.
