Since there is some news for a The Hunger Games movie-I want you to tell me what actress you would cast for the part of Katniss. And then you need to explain why.

Summer Glau! I thought she was wonderful in the firefly series. She looks the part and has a broad range of expressions/moods that she is believably able to pull of. That would be Katniss, in my mind!
Oooh I love this challenge! I really enjoy casting characters :) I did a post a while back on my dream Hunger Games cast, and my pick for Katniss was Willa Holland. I always though she had the perfect look, dark hair and all, and Katniss is supposed to be pretty scrawny yet look super tough. I think Willa looks like that! And for some reason, it's really easy to imagine her with a bow and arrow in the forest, hunting, and equally easy to envision her all made up in a pretty dress :)

Teresa Palmer. She has a spark that I think Katniss needs, and physically is similar to Katniss except for her hair, which could be changed. She also doesn't fall into the extremely boring personality pitfall, which several young actresses seem to have had problems with (like Kristen Stewart and Alexandra Daddario), but could still pull off Katniss more serious' moods and more girly on-tv moods.

I think Troian Bellisario would be a great Katniss. She has dark hair, and she looks tough and mysterious.

I have yet to find the actress to find my "perfect" Katniss.
However, I have one that I definitely think would be amazing at playing the role. She doesn't LOOK the part much, but with hair and makeup, it could be pulled off.
I say Saoirse Ronan! She's a great actress and the perfect age. She'd be able to pull off the rough, but sweet Katniss!
I think Kaya Scodelario. She definitely has the talent. I know her skin needs to be a little more olive colored, but they can pull that off.
I guess she's my pick so far.
I think Elizabeth Gillies might be a good choice. I'm not sure though, and I definitely need to see more of her work before I decide. She definitely is the perfect age. She has dark hair like I imagine her having...
I agree Troian Bellisario would be good. She's a good actress. She looks almost the right age, and she has the right body shape/hair color that I imagine.
Ah, I changed my mind after just talking about The Blind Side with my brother - I'd have to totally say Lily Collins (as long as she keeps her hair dark). I definitely think she could pull of Katniss,
Kaya Scodelario, I think. She'd be great, because she's an amazing actress. And she kinda fits the part.
I guess Lilly Collins could pull it off. I just haven't found the perfect Katniss yet
I kind of fell in love with Anna Popplewell after the Narnia movies. Not gonna lie. And I think she would be a really interesting Katniss!
Although it did not occur to me while reading the books, when I did consider an actress for Katniss, Summer Glau came to mind. She has the long dark hair, she's very small and slender, and her dancer background gives her an edge in that she can bring a grace to the character that probably few other actresses can. She's amazing in action scenes, and can pull off completely different personalities very convincingly.
