The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
Publication Date: September 8, 2009
Versions: hardcover, paperback, kindle, audio

Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
Seventeen year old Veronica "Ronnie" Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alientated from her parents, especially her father...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church.

The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story of love on many levels--first love, love between parents and children -- that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that love can break our hearts...and heal them.

I have to announce that this was my first Nicholas Sparks book. I've only ever seen the movie adaptions of the books (including A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, Message in a Bottle, and Nights in Rodanthe). And after seeing all these movies, I've never been in the mood to read that books because I already know what's going to happen. So before this movie (yes, there is a movie if you didn't already know and it's being released on March 31st) comes out I wanted to read the book, which is exactly what I did.

Ronnie and her brother's mom sent them down to their fathers house for the summer and Ronnie isn't too happy about it. She hasn't talked to him in three years and is still pretty upset about the divorce. So she finds friends with some bad people before she meets Will, who start up a romance even though both of them are opposites of who they would normally be attracted to.

This was a really good book, I have to say that Nicholas Sparks can write. And I loved the name Ronnie-it's very original and I haven't seen it in books before. I also liked that fact that Ronnie was very snappy and always said what was on her mind. Her brother, who talked a lot, was really cute too. And while reading about him-I wish I had a little brother.

Will i reread it?
I have no idea, but I'll defiantly be going to the movie.

Here's a trailer for the movie starring: Miley Cyrus (as Ronnie), Liam Hemsworth (as Will), Greg Kinnear (as her father), and Bobby Coleman (as her brother).

I loved Nicholas Spark's earlier books (especially The Notebook) but lately I haven't been able to read one and finish it...like The Choice. I abandoned it. I still have The Lucky One on my TBR shelf, and I do want to read The Last Song...great review!

I've never read any of Sparks' books either and always got the impression that they weren't written well! I guess I should start reading some of his novels to see for myself. Great review, though!

Hey Morgan! The only Nicolas Spark's books I have read are Horse Whisperer and The Notebook. I have been very curious about this one! And since my 10 year old is a HUGE Miley Cyrus fan, we may be seeing the movie too!
