What I Did for Love: A Novel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

What I Did for Love: A Novel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Publication Date: January 27, 2009
Versions: hardcover, paperback, kindle, audio

Summary (from barnesandnoble.com):
How did this happen? Georgie York, once the costar of America's favorite television sitcom, has been publicly abandoned by her famous husband, her film career has tanked, her father is driving her crazy, and her public image as a spunky heroine is taking a serious beating.

What should a down-on-her-luck actress do? Not go to Vegas... not run into her detestable former costar, dreamboat-from-hell Bramwell Shepard... and not get caught up in an ugly incident that leads to a calamitous elopement. Before she knows it, Georgie has a fake marriage, a fake husband, and maybe (or not) a fake sex life.

It's a paparazzi free-for-all, and Georgie's nonsupporting cast doesn't help. There's Bram's punk-nightmare housekeeper, Georgie's own pushy parent, a suck-up agent, an icy studio head with a private agenda, and her ex-husband's new wife, who can't get enough of doing good deeds and saving the world — the bitch. As for Georgie's leading man, Bram's...

Boy oh boy. Georgie's a one of a kind character. She grew up on television starring in one of the most popular television shows with her costar Bram. Bram was always doing drugs and getting drunk on set-she never fully forgave him for ending the show for them. And then years go by before they meet or talk again and by that time, they still hate eachother. And then Georgie goes to Vegas after her husband dumps her for some other actress that's prettier and better than her. Bram ends up in Vegas too and then something none of them expected happens.

I really enjoy the plot line of this book. There's a love/hate relationship going on between Georgie and Bram. The writing was superb and Susan Elizabeth Phillips captured me into this book through all 401 pages.

Will I reread it?
Most defiantly. When I'm looking for a fun, cute read that will make my heart stop-this will be the one.

I'm usually not drawn to books with older characters (because I'm a teenager) and I relate to teenage characters better than thirty something characters. But this book pulled me in, chewed me, and then spit me out at the last page where my heart collapsed in satisfaction.

I agree it was a cute book! Plus, I like how the author brought in some characters from two of her other books as minor characters in this one. =0)
